2025 Growing Through the Seasons wall calendarThis year's calendar is a real thing of beauty. It's a celebration of seasonal fruit, vegetables and flowers with a hand-carved lino-print alongside a monthly poem, gardening tips and information on what to sow and harvest. A handy growing chart is also included at the back of the calendar. Our friends Isla and Bryony make such a fantastic duo and it's evident in the thoughtfulness and artistry of the calendar. Isla is a talented artist and printmaker and Bryony is a Head Gardener at the Sharpham Estate here in South Devon, managing the 19th century walled garden and grounds. It's the perfect gift for the gardeners, allotment growers and vegetable lovers in your life. The fantastic guidance and inspiration will help gardeners of all levels of experience keep on track throughout the growing season.

We have a fantastic online seed-saving course which is discounted throughout November and December at a bargain price of just £36. Here is what a happy participant had to say about the course: Your use of the video clips all the way through, and your warm, enthusiastic welcome at the start, means you don't feel alone doing it - you feel accompanied. Also the overall framework of the course makes it a lot more accessible to work through than reading a book about the subject.

Baddaford Collective GiftsDid you know that we are part of a farming collective called the Baddaford Collective? We are based at Baddaford Farm in Buckfastleigh in Devon, and there are six of us small businesses here on the farm. One of our other collective members is offering gifts this year and we wanted to share some information about them too: PIGMENT organic dyes, who work with young adults with learning disabilities to help them get into work, are offering a range of beautiful gifts this Christmas, including naturally dyed socks, yarn, dye kits and more. The kits consist of pre-prepared fabric (or garments) and dried flowers to dye them in beautiful earthy tones. You can pick from bundle dye kits, pre-prepared linen and cotton or even knickers! They will make wonderful gifts for lovers of fabric and natural colours who want to make more ethical and sustainable choices about the clothes they wear.
Well done, you made it to the end of a very long newsletter!! Or maybe you jumped straight to the bottom? Very understandable - either way, that's it for this time. Happy growing and gifting Chloe and the rest of the team P.S. this autumn has been particularly mild, meaning there's still time to sow you broad beans now. But don't delay - you can buy some here. |
Spring has truly spring and it is a joy to behold. The unfurling of life is all around and it is exciting to be getting back onto the land to plant, dig and sow. You've likely done a big flush of sowing and are eagerly watching your baby seedlings germinate and grow. April is another fantastic time to fill up your propagation space and we thought we'd include our 'top crops to sow' for this month below. This list includes vegetables, salads and herbs but also some of our favourite half hardy...
March is in full swing and there are signs of spring to be seen all around. Crocuses, daffodils and nettles are beginning to make an appearance and the pointed leaves of wild garlic are beginning to show their green abundance in hedgerows and woodlands. It's easy to forget the importance that these first greens would have had in the diets of our ancestors - they were not just a relief from the less than fresh stored ingredients that had been sustaining them throughout the winter, but also...
It's March, the most exciting time of year for the enthusiastic seed sower. The light levels are returning, the soil is starting to come alive and the sun's warmth can be felt in glimpses between the showers. This month can be changeable however, so it's good to observe the climate in your local area and make sure the conditions are right. If you're starting to see weeds sprouting in your beds it's a sure sign that it's time to start. It's a busy month! There's a huge variety of things you...
