We're just a few weeks from Imbolc and with it we can feel the glimmers of light and sun returning.

Tuning into the wheel of the year can be a great way to mimic nature's seasonality within our own minds and bodies. This gives us the space and time to reflect, dream and rest before the energy of the growing season truly begins.

We get lots of requests from our customers about our what our tried and tested growing materials, tools and resources are so we thought we'd compile them in a list for you. Hopefully it's great timing as you begin to tidy and sort your propagation / growing space in preparation for all that's to come over the next few months:

We're hiring an 'Order Fulfilment and Germination Testing Coordinator'!

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to join our small and dynamic team dedicated to producing and supplying top quality organic open-pollinated seeds to UK gardeners and growers.

This a critical role to our business, with its main focus being order fulfilment as well as customer support and germination testing depending on the season.

Wage: £14/h

Part-time: 3 days/week, 9-5pm.

Days required are Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Where: Baddaford Farm, Ashburton, Devon

Start date: as soon as possible

Application deadline: 26 January 2025

D-I-Y germination testing

January is a great time to sort through and take an inventory of your seed stash for the season ahead. If you've got lots of seed leftover from previous seasons and want to test the viability we've got a super simple guide to trying your own germination test at home.

All you need is some tissue paper, a spray bottle and a plastic bag.

P.S. Now's a great time to sow your sweet peas! Our method is to soak the seeds overnight, adding four seeds to each corner of a 9cm pot. Keep seedlings under cover and protected from mice until they can be planted out in spring. Get yours here!
